Papier-Mâché

Papier mâché is a delicate and decorative craft most famously associated with Kashmir. The process begins with layers of hand-pressed paper pulp moulded into sculptural forms, which are then dried, polished, and prepared for painting. Artisans meticulously hand-paint intricate motifs—often inspired by nature, florals, and traditional patterns—using fine brushes and natural pigments.
Lightweight yet remarkably durable, papier mâché combines fragility with strength. The art form requires patience, precision, and an exceptional eye for detail.
